Bible Verses about Friendship/ Relationship

The book of Proverbs has much to say about relationships

  • Proverbs 10:12 - Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
  • Proverbs 16:28 - A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
  • Proverbs 17:9-10 - He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. (10) A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.
  • Proverbs 18:24 - A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
and the importance of Godly friends
  • Proverbs 12:26 - The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
  • Proverbs 13:20 - He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
  • Proverbs 14:7 - Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
  • Proverbs 20:19 - He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
  • Proverbs 22:5 - Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
  • Proverbs 24 :1-2 - Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them: (2) For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Trustworthy friends are those who love enough to confront and provide correction; they are not afraid to offer a painful rebuke in order to protect you from harm
  • Proverbs 27: 5-6 - Open rebuke is better than secret love. (6) Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Their heartfelt and honest counsel is welcomed like the delightful aromas of perfumes and incense
  • Proverbs 27:9 - Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
A true friend is one who makes you a better person.
  • Proverbs 27:17 - Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
